So I'm fairly certain that my little Fredo Rattington has some sort of tumor... he has suddenly become very skinny over the past few days, and I can feel a large lump near his rear left hip... and he's not eating... and he just sits in his hammock all day... curled up...
He's been breathing rather sharply today... I don't think it will be much longer... I am wondering if I should take him to the vet... if it would be more humane to have him euthanized than to let him fade like this... I don't know if the vet will even perform such a procedure on a rat... The average lifespan of a rat is 2 - 3 years... and Fredo is about 2 (assuming that he was 10 weeks old when I got him and his brother, Jimmy, as I was told)
My poor Fredo...

Fredo is the one on top here, with Jimmy, in their Chube...

I envy Shadow... my cat... (one of them anyway)... she's perfect... and oblivious...
I wish I could be more like her... she's so sweet and loving and gentle... she'll curl up on my lap or in the space between my chest and the laptop... head and tail and legs thrown across my arms... she'll gently take my fingers in her mouth and pull them away when she's had enough scratching... she'll yell at me when I don't pay enough attention to her... she'll often throw things around if she feels so inclined... pushing things off the counter, table, or bookcase... she'll skulk around the house howling if she feels she needs to... "mmmelllow? mmmmmelllowww???".... she speaks... I swear of it... circling around my legs dropping nows all over the floor... "now? now? now?"...
Everything she says is a question... always inquisitive, but never feeling the need to explain her own motivations... she's so graceful... so lovely... so unashamed... so completely oblivious of her own mortality and faults...
Oh to be a cat...

So the heat has let up somewhat due to the thunderstorms last night... I fell asleep in the cool air, curled up next to the boy... he was watching one of his silly cartoon movies... it was nice...
I was in a much better mood once I took that second shower yesterday afternoon... the shower still smelled of Irish Spring from Eric... and just as I got in and turned the cool water on, it started getting all grey and windy outside... I love that we have a window right in the shower now... I love watching the tops of the trees in the courtyard while I get clean...
It started to rain very heavily and thunder, and with the cool shower, I got very happy...
We ordered pizzas for dinner and watched tv and relaxed... quite lovely...
So it's a little cooler today, and as such the creatures are moving around more today... they're still staying low to the ground, and Molly is standing guard at the basement door... Dusty is sleeping, sprawled across the shoes by the back door...
Busy is hilarious! I went to get a drink from the fridge a little while ago, and she sniffed the cool air coming from the fridge and decided to hop right in!!
What a smart kitty!!!

lol... I love it... now if only I could fit in the fridge... take a nap right on top of the leftover pizza... use a block of cheese as a pillow...
*relaxed sigh*

Molly had a run in with a big scarey male tabby at 5 o'clock this morning...
Woke Eric and I both out of a dead sleep... we heard banging and hissing and growling and thought that maybe Dusty had had enough of Busy's shenanegins, or was wrestling with Shadow... but it got really loud and violent sounding, so we both ran downstairs to find poor Molly throwing herself at the front window, trying to ward off this big male...
She was really freaking out, and the other cat was almost taunting her, biting at the screen and clawing at the window... good thing we keep all the windows on the ground floor closed at night, or she likely would've gone right through at him...
I scared him away with the squirt bottle, and Eric called Molls down, and we somehow managed to get another half hour of sleep or so, before the alarm clock went off... I would've went outside and chased him away, but we were both in our skivvies, and that side of the house faces on to a busy street... there were many cars, even at 5 am..
He's shown up once more so far today, and I chased him away... little bugger...
It's really hot today... according to the weather network, we might hit 50 degrees celcius by later this afternoon, with the humidex...
I almost wish we had splurged and bought an A/C unit...
It's crazy in here... still not as bad as ouotside though... maybe I'll go finish cleaning the basement... it's cool down there...
or maybe I'll just have another glass of water and resume the job-search...
P.S. Unemployment is getting really boring... boring, and hot...

I thought I might share some pics of my babies...
Shadow(Age 3) - We've had her since she was 8 weeks old. We adopted her from a classmate of Eric's when he was in 4th year at UWO... she was the only black kitty in a whole litter of calicos. In this picture she'd sunbathing between the back of the sofa and the patio doors. She's a diva, as you can clearly see:

And this is Molly (Age 4) - We adopted her last April or May (2004) from a rescue organization. She's a chunky lady, but we're working on that still... she's certainly the most talkative, affectionate and personable of the three and is always looking for attention... In this picture she's sitting on one of the shelves of the cat tree, making her grunty little meow that she makes when she wants attention...

And last but not least, this is Dusty (Age 8 or so...) We just adopted him in July from the THS, and he's been a funny little addition. He's had his ups and downs, but he's got such a great character and has settled in very well. He generally spends his days wrestling with Shadow. In this picture he's hanging out on top of the kitchen cabinets... that's the same expression he always has on his squishy little persian face :o)

I think I am developing an addiction to PC Oraganics' Stoned Wheat Crackers with Tofutti's "Better Than Cream Cheese" Herb and Garlic non-dairy spread... you should try it sometime...
*two thumbs up*
Molly found her new catnip and tore it open before I could put it in a glass jar... now she's rolling around on the carpet like a little furry crack head...
who needs tv?
